Course Overview

We believe that the main person in the learning process is the “learner” (student) not the teacher or the school administrator. We develop in Principals and other educational leaders and managers the skills to lead and effectively manage their area of operation to optimise the outcomes for the students involved.

Management programs for Principals and other school leaders, whether they be undergraduate, postgraduate or short courses on professional development are worthwhile. As Professor Dinham has shown, optimising student outcomes is not just a teacher’s role. It is a core role of the Principal and other school leaders.

Professor Stephen Dinham: (Univ of Woollongong, 2007) – Researched 38 NSW High Schools, investigating faculties and teams achieving outstanding student outcomes.

Major finding was that Principals play key roles in providing the conditions where teachers can teach and students can learn.

The study concluded that principals were just as important as teachers in achieving learning outcomes.

They are change leaders, risk-takers and are focused on educational leadership rather that management and administration.

They are focused on the twin core purposes of teaching and learning.

Educators generally are well qualified when “education” knowledge is involved. However, they are often promoted to leadership positions needing additional knowledge or experience in the areas of leadership and management.

Professional Performance Australia has developed a course for school leaders called “Management Foundations”, focussed on building excellent student outcomes.

The course takes an Action Learning approach where theory underlying practice is applied meaningfully in the workplace.

This course is structured around five projects using a Project Management approach as a platform for successful learning. The software used to support and develop participants’ understanding is the cutting edge MindSights™ Premium package.

A mechanic improves a car’s performance with quality tools and technology. Educators are knowledge workers. MindSights™ guides their critical thinking and provides cognitive tools to develop “Management Foundations”.

The Project Management approach can be self-paced and worked at as an individual. However, there are many advantages in having a group of colleagues from the same workplace participate in the course at the same time. Interaction with your course facilitator can be face-to-face (particularly where a group from the same school or organisation are participating, and geographic location is not a precluding factor), via teleconferencing or individual telephone calls, via the internet (through E-mails and file transfers etc.).

The course allows for complete flexibility, and is available for all educational leaders and administrators.

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be given a certificate of successful completion from Professional Performance Australia. We have mapped the competencies required for our course across those required for the nationally recognised qualification Diploma of Management. After completing a few administrative arrangements you will also be entitled to the Diploma award at no additional cost.*

There may be occasions however where the RTO’s internal quality control auditor may require some additional information.
