Professional Performance Australia currently has two courses which when successfully completed will allow the participants to be awarded a Nationally Recognised Diploma of Management.

These courses are Management Foundations (student outcomes focus), and Management Foundations (business focus).

Another course available from 20 May, 2009 for which federal government funding may be available is the Certificate IV in Frontline Management

The first of these courses has been designed specifically for leaders working in the fields of Education and Training, and the second for leaders working in Business and Industry.

Ian McKenzie is the courses co-ordinator for Management Foundations and the facilitator of both of these Management Foundations courses.

Ian has had extensive experience in both the design and delivery of professional development courses, especially those relating to effective communication, leadership and management.

He has taught leadership and management courses in Universities, Institutes of TAFE, and large private Registered Training Organisations, in addition to his own consultancy company, and as a Director of Professional Performance Australia.

In recent years he has made frequent visits to Papua New Guinea to assist in designing, managing and delivering training programs for one of the largest providers of training in that country.

His positions in the tertiary education sector have included:

• Head of Department, Faculty Head and Manager of Studies with an Institute of TAFE.
• Head of the Faculty of Personal and Professional Development for an Australian Private College which has courses up to Bachelor degree level and campuses in three capital cities.
• Senior Consultant for a large Registered Training Organisation.
• Director of Professional Performance Australia.

His practical experience in leadership and management is exemplified by the positions held listed above in addition to the following roles:

• Senior teaching and administrative positions in each of the primary, secondary, special and tertiary education sectors. In addition to the above mentioned positions, roles have included, Principal, Senior-Teacher-in-Charge, Head of Department.
• Executive Director of a large multinational Youth and Community Service Organisation.
• Owner/manager of retail shops in Brisbane city
• Owner/manager of adult Health and Fitness Centres in Brisbane City
• Projects Director for Australian Divisions of General Practice

Ian McKenzie is one of the three founding Directors of Professional Performance Australia (PPA). The others are Professor Rod Gerber and Mel Phillips. It would be difficult to find three other people whose breadth and depth of experience in the field of workplace learning would be better than the three founding Directors of PPA. Rod for example was on the editorial board of several International Journals on workplace learning before his untimely death in 2007. Mel has held senior educational leadership positions for many years. Among these was his position of band 11 Principal at a large Gold Coast High School, where he will be long remembered for the many innovative and successful programs he introduced.

The founding Directors have laid the foundations for Professional Performance Australia’s Management Foundation courses which have now come to fruition.
