Assessment Principles

There are principles that will be followed in the assessment of competence. The four most important of these principles are:

  1. Fairness
  2. Validity
  3. Reliability
  4. Flexibility

Other factors that are taken into account with regard to competency based assessment, in our Management Foundations (student outcomes focus) are:

  1. Sufficiency of evidence
  2. Cost effectiveness of the evidence gathering
  3. Recency of evidence provided
  4. Occupational health and safety issues
  5. Assessment as a learning process
  6. Assessment as a collaborative process
  7. No single approach will be used. For example, the assessment used for a group of twelve participants from a large Metropolitan High School may differ from the assessment used for the Principal of a one teacher school in a remote community.

If course participants, or potential course participants have any questions regarding any of the content of this page, or the page on Competency Based Training, please contact the Course Facilitator, Ian McKenzie.
